More than half a century of dedication to hospitality knowledge
Education in the hotel and hospitality industry has been from the very beginning a vision to which Thanpuying Chanut Piyaoui has devoted a major part of her career.
"If Thailand is to be among the world's leaders in the hotel and hospitality industry, the education and training of staff would be of the highest importance," stated Thanpuying Chanut Piyaoui, Dusit Group's Founder and Honorary Chairperson, over 50 years ago when Thailand was still in its infancy in the field of tourism and travel.
Thanpuying Chanut emphasized, "To carry on our progress in this direction, we founded the Dusit Thani College, which opened its doors in 1993." Subsequently, her pioneering project was recognized by the Ministry of Education as the first learning institution at higher education level to offer hospitality education and training in Southeast Asia, offering Bachelor's degrees in Hotel, Kitchen, and Travel Industry Management.
In August 2007, Dusit continued the process by entering a joint venture with the world's leading hotel and culinary education institution, Le Cordon Bleu which opened on August 17th. This new alliance among Dusit, Le Cordon Bleu, and Dusit Thani College is destined to become Bangkok's most modern and complete culinary training of a scale and scope never achieved before in Thailand, or even the rest of the region.
This collaboration between the two iconic brands - Dusit and Le Cordon Bleu - both recognized for excellence, prestige and quality, is a natural marriage with complementary strengths, which will in turn inevitably lead to world-class recognition throughout Thailand and the region.
In this regard, the Thai Government itself now recognizes the tourism industry as a major source of income, and as such has been promoting and supporting this industry. Tourism, travel and hospitality service businesses are constantly improving themselves, through higher service standard, developing all strategies, and safety concerns, to be ready and to meet highly competitive challenges of this industry.
In retrospect, Dusit has come a long way since 1949 when Thanpuying Chanut opened her first hotel, The Princess, located on Bangkok's New Road. Today, the widespread developments of Dusit Hotels & Resorts, D2 hotels + resorts [a brand extension of Dusit] and Royal Princess Hotels & Resorts, continue to attest to Thanpuying Chanut's visionary imprint in the field of education, recognizing the need for specialized and sophisticated hospitality training in Thailand as a regional center.
