Pattaya to host Thailand's first & South East Asia’s largest Multimedia Digital Arts and Design Festival
Thailand Creative & Design Centre (TCDC) in collaboration with Pattaya City will host what is set to become the biggest digital art & design festival in South East Asia, Thailand’s first “Pattaya World Digital Art & Design Festival” in November 2011.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony & press conference was held on Wednesday 11 May 2011, at the auditorium of TCDC, 6/F Emporium Tower. VIPs, including the Mayor of Pattaya, Mr Itthiphol Khunpuem and the director of TCDC’s Design Advisory Department, Mr Kittirat Pitipanich, attended.
Pattaya World Digital Art & Design Festival will be Thailand’s first, and South East Asia’s biggest, such event. The inaugural festival aims to help elevate the image of Pattaya City beyond its long-held reputation as one of Asia’s nightlife destinations. The event will also showcase the creative multimedia works of world’s famous artists, including American Evan Roth, whose works focus on tools of empowerment, open source and pop culture; Dutchman Theo Jansen, famous kinetic sculptures of animal; Nattapol Supawong, a well-known Thai interactive media artist, and many more.
Works will be exhibited under three major themes:
1.) Digital Sea: Multimedia that project images onto the ocean and surrounding buildings.
2.) Digital Sky: Works projected into the sky or onto high-rise buildings.
3.) Digital Street: “Art Walk” A spectacular procession of creative activities that promises to amaze visitors, featuring exhibitions, sculptors, installation works, kinetic arts, and street performance along the 4-kilometre Pattaya Bay beach walk. Additional activities, including concerts, art and design markets, competitions and seminars, will also be organized for visitors and talent from all over Thailand to enjoy.
As Mr. Ittiphol Khunpuem, Mayor of Pattaya said, “We pride ourselves as one of the most happening and creative cities in Thailand and this event promises to be a "one of a kind" that will surely offer a huge uplifting experience to all visitors.” Mr. Khunpuem continued, “This event will not only help uplift the image of Pattaya in terms of tourism, but it also benefits the multimedia & IT industry in the eastern seaboard zone.”
While the Managing Director of TCDC, Mr. Apisit Laistrooglai said “The presentation of these creative designs & arts using advanced, cutting-edge multimedia technology will be the intrugal.
