dusitD2 baraquda pattaya wins ASEANTA Awards of Excellence at ASEAN Tourism Forum 2011

Pattaya, Thailand – Pattaya, Thailand – dusitD2 baraquda pattaya’s innovative Corporate Social Responsibility campaign (CSR) “The Release of Baby Clownfish (Nemo) to their Home Reefs” has been awarded Best ASEAN Conservation Effort at the recent ASEANTA Awards of Excellence 2011. The award presentation ceremony was held at the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2011, on Wednesday 19 January 2011 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

“The Release of Baby Clownfish (Nemo) to their Home Reefs” is an environmental conservation campaign initiated by dusitD2 baraquda pattaya, aim to raise and increase awareness of the importance of the world’s oceans in people’s daily lives as well as continuing to take steps toimprove sea life in the ocean.

With the support from Divecafe.net, the project was held on the highly successfully World Oceans Day, 8 June 2010 (declared by the United Nations), when a group of 25 volunteer Thai scuba divers, including Thailand’s renowned underwater photographers and celebrities, joined in an effort to release one hundred clownfishes into the ocean in Pattaya. Moreover, the release of the baby Clownfish to their home reefs became the only project from Thailand that was listed in 2010’s World Oceans Day highlights event, out of over 1,000 projects worldwide.

As Mr Michael Ganster, General Manager (Guru) of dusitD2 baraquda pattaya said “It is an honour to be the winner of this prestigious ASEANTA award, and to be recognised for our contribution in this field as the ocean play a major part in our hotel design and somehow we are able to link our unique character with ocean related CSR initiative such as this project. We will strive to maintain our leadership role in this area."

“This initiative shows how dusitD2 baraquda pattaya, as a small organisation, does more than providing customers with a quality service standard, but also our commitment to making a difference to the world by helping to improve our environment through this CSR project,” Mr Ganster added.

The ASEANTA Awards for Excellence in Tourism gives recognition to ASEAN individuals and organisations which have contributed to the development of the ASEAN tourism products and services whilst the best ASEAN Conservation Effort Award is the highest recognition for the individual or organisation which has best preserved the national heritage or natural environment/ecology of the ASEAN countries in the interest of tourism development.
