'Fin Free' on the menu at Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket
Phuket, Thailand - Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket recently joined the ‘Fin Free’ Thailand campaign pledging to strike shark fin soup from any menus at their restaurants and future banqueting events in order to protect endangered sharks, marine ecosystems and people’s health.
Mr. Steve Galster (2nd from left), Director of Freeland, presented the Fin Free pledge to Mr Peter Komposch (1st left), General Manager of the resort along with Mrs Natalie Kamolwattanasoontorn (1st right), Resident Manager, at the Fin Free Thailand Sign up & Local Children Community Program event held July 5th 2013. More than 30 hotels from around Phuket joined the Fin Free Campaign at the event organized by Phuket-based environmental group SEEK.
Fin Free Thailand was initiated by FREELAND Foundation, Love Wildlife Foundation and Change.org Thailand, with support from other partners including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The campaign encourages hotels and restaurants to stop serving shark fin in order to protect endangered sharks, marine ecosystems, and people’s health. It also informs consumers of the serious health and environmental risks of eating shark fin, as well as encourages patronage of Fin Free establishments.
