Dusit Thani Dubai’s Chefs bring home eight medals from Salon Culinaire 2012
Dubai: Dusit Thani Dubai chefs wowed Emirates International Salon Culinaire judges at this year’s competitions and brought home a total of eight medals, including two gold.
The Emirates International Salon Culinaire is the annual event held during Gulfood, the Middle East’s largest trade exhibition for the food, beverage, food service and hospitality equipment industry. This year’s event consisted of a series of competitions in more than 25 categories ranging from the creation and preparation of a five-course gourmet meal to dessert plates, ice carvings, and confectionery.
This year saw the hotel’s ice carvers pick up both gold medals for individual and team carving. Chef Wasan Mokan, returning competitor was awarded a gold medal last year for his ice carving talents and didn’t fail to disappoint this week as his Thai influenced bird sculpture impressed judges who said it was an almost flawless piece. Chef Wasan then was awarded a second gold medal with teammate and colleague Chef Piyakiet Ngawtong for their team sculpture.
Medals were not just limited to ice carving, Chef Bossaporn Chaowanachinda and Chef Piyakiet Ngawtong were awarded silver medals for live cooking in the salmon and lamb category, and Chef Christopher George gained silver for his mastery in lamb dressing. Chef Rohan Jayantha Gampalage, first time entrant to the competition, picked up a bronze medal in the Four Plates of Dessert category.
“Our chefs make us proud time and time again with their achievements. We are very lucky to have such dedicated and skilled colleagues promoting Thai arts and heritage working within our kitchens,” Mr James Wilson, General Manager of Dusit Thani Dubai said. “Being a Thai hotel we encourage the development of culinary crafts and creativity. At every opportunity we support our chefs to develop their talents to create such grand master pieces. We are very proud and please with all our competitors achievements this year.”
