Dusit International in the UAE Commemorated the King’s Birth
Time zone and miles apart, Thais in Dubai were given venue to be one with their nation back home
Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Staff of Dusit International chains based in Dubai enjoined the rest of the Thai people around the world to commemorate the 83rd birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on 5 December 2010. Dusit Princess City Centre, Pearl Coast Premier Hotel Apartments, and Dusit Thani Dubai gathered at the latter's PAX restaurant where they paid tribute to the longest-reigning monarch who acceded to the throne in 1946.
The venue served as an apt setting for a festive yet sacred assembly. The beloved king's portrait adorned with flowers became the poignant centerpiece. While candle-lighting rites, fervent singing of the national anthem and cheers of "Long live the king!" showed the sincere devotion of his constituents no matter where they are in the globe. Cultural Thai performances by Dusit Thani Dubai artists accompanied the merry-making.
Making the event even more momentous was the simultaneous and reverent observance of the live ceremony that was telecasted live from Thailand.
Being a unifying force to a nation especially in times of turmoil, it is indeed no surprise that unanimity among Thais in this occasion transcends distance apart from their motherland. And this has always been taken into account by Dusit Thani Dubai, hence the invitation among Dusit International colleagues. On the same day, Dusit Thani Dubai staff on duty wore yellow shirts as it is the colour of Monday—the day when the king was born. The Hotel adhered to the Thai tradition to honour this generation's icon that many have come to love and respect.
