Dubbed as “The Return of the Champions”, the women’s professional tennis tournament recently upgraded to international series status, and drew thousands of tennis fans to the resort’s courts, which has been the event venue for the last 19 years.

In Sunday’s finals, world-ranked no. 9 Ms. Vera Zvonareva lived up to her tournament title as she repeated her victory defeating Thailand’s tennis pride, Ms. Tamarine Tanasugarn 6-4, 6-4.The Russian tennis star headed for her next event taking her winnings of US$37,000 (THB 1,258,000) while the runner-up Ms. Tanasugarn brought home US$19,000 (THB 646,000). She later made up for her loss by emerging victorious in the doubles with Ms. Marina Erakovic of New Zealand by beating Ms. Anna Chakvetadze and Ms. Ksenia Pervak of Russia, 7-5, 6-1.

Both Ms. Tanasugarn and Ms. Zvonareva complimented each other’s performance which evoked roars of chants and cheers from everyone, especially from both Thai and Russian fans who packed the courts of Dusit Thani Pattaya overlooking the Gulf of Siam.

Tennis stars from countries across the world join VIP guests and sponsors of the tournament on stage for a group photo during the welcome cocktails held at the hotel’s extended terrace, The Point overlooking Pattaya Bay.

While others went all the way to the top of this elephant, Ms. Vera Zvonareva enjoyed a swing on the pachyderm’s trunk. The presence of the elephant was one of the main attractions of the cocktail reception.
