Dusit Thani Dubai, the First Hotel in Middle East to receives EarthCheck Silver Benchmarked Status
Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Dusit Thani Dubai receives the EarthCheck Silver Benchmarked Status and thus, becoming the first hotel recipient in the Middle East and the first Dusit International‟s hotel to gain this honour.
We are continuously improving strategies that have been present since the time of inception. These are „back-to-basics‟ practices,” says Director of Engineering Mr. Johnny Ding. By furnishing more detailed actions to fight global warming and other environmental depletion effects is one of the main reasons why the hotel reached its esteemed status. These initiatives are then divided into 3 categories, namely: energy conservation, waste disposal management and community services.
Several action plans have been laid out for the conservation of water and electricity. These include the installation of dual flush systems in all toilets, monitoring pressure of water in all guest rooms, as well as utilizing water-saving devices on showers which will preserve a significant amount of water. LED lighting and the implementation of dimmers, especially in public areas, has reduced the consumption of electricity.
Additionally, During the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day last April, Dusit Thani Dubai‟s staff planted 80 trees at their staff accommodation, Baan Dusit, located in Al Quoz. The hotel strongly supports Dubai‟s government programmes that promote environmental awareness and social responsibility. Recently, Dusit Thani Dubai was one of the delegates during the best practices symposium for the Dubai Green Tourism Award 2010, organised by Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM). One of the most notable contributions of Dusit Thani Dubai in the environmental field, has been its major sponsorship during Dubai Municipality‟s Clean Up The World project, in which thousands of Emirate residents participated. Dusit International, whose headquarters is located in Thailand, is highly inspired by these accolades, and during the last half of 2010, it has launched firmer green initiatives to be rolled out to all its properties.
“We constantly look for opportunities to support our natural surroundings. We look into the market for eco-friendly amenities and products,” he explains. Although keeping up with the technology may be one way to embrace modernization, Ding stresses that a concrete and enhanced basic structure is key to the hotel‟s strong ecological foundation.
