Chinese New Year Celebrations at Dusit Thani Dubai
This Chinese New Year, Dusit Thani Dubai, as an Asian hotel offering unique Thai hospitality, prepared a special celebration to mark the occasion, complete with a lion dance, a Chinese calligrapher who provided guests the chance to have their own sample of this elaborate Chinese art form, and an array of delectable dim sum selections in the Dusit Delicatessen.
The highlight of the event was an authentic Chinese lion dance, which commenced at 4pm on Sunday 6 February 2011. This symbolic ritual is believed to drive away evil and bring in good luck. The dance movements are based on ancient Chinese Kung-fu techniques and can only be developed through years of training. The power of the lion dance to drive away evil depends on the skills of the lion players—the higher-skilled the players are, the more powerful the lion becomes. The lion dance at Dusit Thani Dubai started with lion entering the hotel through the front entrance, passing through the glass-ceilinged lobby, and finishing in the hotel parking lot area at the back of the hotel. Traditionally Mandarin oranges, lettuce, and Red Fortune Packet were given to the lion as an offering.
On that same day, a Chinese calligrapher was also available to craft phrases and words of guests’ choosing as elaborate art pieces to take home as souvenirs.
Dusit Delicatessen’s prepared Chinese cuisine treats in addition to the popular Asian corner from 1 – 11 February 2011 between 11am – 9pm. daily.
