PTT Pattaya Open 2013 brings Tennis Fever to Dusit Thani Pattaya

During 27 January – 3 February 2013, the PTT Pattaya Open brought tennis fans to Dusit Thani Pattaya once again as the world's top female tennis players competed for the title won last year by Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia. This year however, Maria Kirilenko of Russia took home the trophy after defeating Sabine Lisicki of Germany 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 in the final held on Sunday, 3 February. In her victory speech, she thanked all her fans for supporting her all the way. She also recounted the day when the hotel management led by the General Manager, Mr Chatchawal Supachayanont, surprised her on her birthday with a cake saying the wish she made of winning the tournament had come true. The event, part of the WTA tour, not only focuses on attracting the world's top tennis stars, but also supports local Thai tennis players by offering them wild cards into the qualifying rounds and the main draw of the tournament. Now on its 22nd year at the Dusit Thani Pattaya, the PTT Pattaya Open is the longest in the history of women's tennis, with the 2010 event voted by the players as "Tournament of the Year".

The event officially began on Sunday, 27 January when a press conference was held at the host hotel's Napalai Convention Hall attended by the country's top sports officials led by Mr Suwat Liptapanlop, head of the Lawn Tennis Association as well as Pattaya City Mayor Ittiphol Khunplome. The participating players were welcomed at a cocktail reception held later in the evening at the hotel's extended terrace, The Point.

Off the court activities included luncheon for orphans from the Anti Human Trafficking and Child Abuse Centre and other CSR visits to the community.
