ASEAN Green Hotel Standard Workshop held
Representatives from ASEAN member countries have completed a two-day workshop on Green Hotel Standard Development and Implementation at Dusit Thani Pattaya. The course aimed to introduce a certification process that includes screening, qualifying checks on certain practices and ensuring that all Green Leaf Foundation (Thailand) criteria are followed.
The conference held on 28-29 July 2011 was hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports in cooperation with the Department of Tourism, Thai Hotels Association, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, Metropolitan Waterworks Authority and the Green Leaf Foundation. The event was chaired by Dr. Chirapol Sintunawa, Vice President of the Green Leaf Foundation and speakers included THA director Sakkarin Chorsawai, THA honorary adviser Sampan Panpat, the President and Chairman of International Affairs Prakit Chinamourphong and the Chairman of the Environment Committee Chatchawal Supachayanont – who is also the General Manager of Dusit Thani Pattaya.
In her opening remarks, Mrs Thanitta Savetsila Maneechote, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports expressed appreciation to all the delegates present and emphasised the importance of the conference.
The forum provided the opportunity to discuss fresh ideas as well as challenges faced by the delegates while making environmental efforts in their respective hotels and businesses. The two-day event was highlighted by the host hotel’s ‘Dusit Goes 4Green’ Exhibition’, in which staff and management showcased in-house eco-friendly policies and initiatives.
