Dusit Thani Dubai Crusades for Earth Day 2010
Dusit Thani Dubai continues to uphold its commitment to ensure environmental sustainability for the coming generations with Plant-A-Tree: A Gift to Mother Earth on April 22, 2010. This is in time for the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day.
Earth Day 2010 focuses on the opportunity to rebuild “a healthy, prosperous and clean energy” lifestyle worldwide. It gives the ball to the corporate leaders as they become the key players in encouraging change to a “global green economy” through advancing climate policy, energy efficiency, and renewable energy among others.
Employees of Dusit Thani Dubai who are firm to their commitment in making the world a greener place will gather in the grounds of Baan Dusit staff accommodation on Thursday at 10 a.m. A tree planting activity shall commence thereafter—thus, holding true to Dusit International’s Corporate Social Responsibility. Being a recipient of the valued Green Globe Bronze Benchmarked 2010 status, Dusit Thani Dubai’s Earth Day 2010 initiative further strengthens the brand’s creed to redefine industry standards—this time, as custodians of the world we all live in.
Apart from giving off oxygen, each tree planted ensures a healthier, less artificial environment. It moderates climate and temperature, improves quality of air and conserves water. In a country whose summer season spans longer months, trees provide a much cooler atmosphere. It likewise absorbs air pollutants including carbon monoxide which is predominant in a busy commercial district such as Dubai.
Guests of the hotel may likewise take part in the commemoration as the external lighting of the hotel will be turned off during 7 – 10 p.m. on Thursday evening. Room guests will be invited to switch off the lights in their rooms and enjoy a complimentary Earth Day special cocktail in MyBar from 7 p.m. – 12 midnight. An Earth Day Menu made from healthy ingredients and energy consuming techniques will be served in the Dusit Delicatessen on Earth Day itself, with the menu also being available for an entire week during 22-29 April 2010 in PAX, the hotel’s Italian restaurant located on the 24th Floor. All of the ingredients for the dishes are from neighboring countries within the Gulf region, so as to help reduce carbon footprint for transportation.
The Earth Day Menu will feature: Warm Salad of Bell Pepper, Eggplant and Portobello Mushroom (the vegetables are pan-fried with olive oil on a gas stove, with a short burst of energy and not needing the use of prolonged electricity); Grilled Hammour fillet with black chopped olives, capers and a sauce of sun-dried tomatoes, served with roast potatoes (Hammour fish is locally available in the Gulf area. All other ingredients of the dish are from the region as well. The ingredients are all cooked with a low consumption of gas); and Classic Tiramisu served in a cappuccino cup (this dessert is prepared without having to use any electrical kitchen equipment and all the ingredients are from the region.). Guests can avail this sumptuous eco-friendly treat for only AED 120 per person.
