Dusit Thani Dubai and the Emirates Photography Forum TM present “My Ramadan” Photography Exhibition
October 26 – November 8, 2012, Dusit Thani Dubai
To mark the Greater Eid, Eid al-Adha, Dusit Thani Dubai and the newly created Emirates Photography Forum TM (EPF TM) have the great pleasure in presenting “My Ramadan”, a photography exhibition celebrating Islamic culture and cutoms during the Holy Month of Ramadan. The art display will feature imagery through the eyes and the lenses of the professional and amateur photographers from across the Middle East and further afield.
The “My Ramadan” photography project started in 2011 as a simple idea to share moments shared during Ramadan by one photographer, Slava Noor. Her passion for photography and educating others on the islamic culture and customs sparked the beginnings of an annual exhibition which continues to grow in popularity and has seen more than 40 photographers submiting their work from across the Islamic world.
“This year the project unites both professional and amateur photographers, from UAE and other countries such as Palestine, Tanzania and Mauritius. What sets this project apart from others is that it is not a competition where everyone is seeking their own interest, but a collaboration of creative minds in creating a positive change in the community through their favorite self- expression-tool, photography,” Slava Noor noted.
This year Dusit Thani Dubai has been working with the EPF TM to host the exhibition within its iconic five star hotel. James Wilson, the hotel’s General Manager, noted: “Our hotel serves as an ambassador of a rich Thai culture and we have always prided ourselves with celebrating this while embracing the customs and traditions of our location. Hosting such a inspiring topic over the Eid holidays is a way for us to not only inspire but to educate our guests and visitors about the destination in which they have chosen to visit.”
The Emirates Photography Forum TM will be using the exhibition as their official launch event, introducing photographers and partners to its platform which gives the photography community the means to gain more exposure and exhibiting opportunities, an idea formed by one of the exhibition participants, Fahad Ali.
“EPF TM aims to unite all of the UAE photo lovers, providing a platform where photographers of all levels can get more exposure while professional can pass on their skills to the upcoming talent. The participants of “My Ramadan” will be the pioneers of the forum and are encouraged to participate in all of the upcoming projects and initiate their own collaborations,” Mr Fahad added.
As part of the Dusit Thani Dubai’s efforts in supporting its chosen charity, Operation Smile in the UAE, the EPF TM will be donating half of all proceeds made from the sale of the displayed artworks to their efforts in mobilizing a force of medical professionals and caring hearts to provide safe, effective reconstructive surgery for children born with facial deformities within the region.
