Bringing Light to Mother Earth Amidst an Hour of Darkness on a Monthly Basis
Manila, Philippines – For the 10th time, the all new Dusit Thani Manila once again conducts its monthly version of the Earth Hour dubbed as “Dusit Green Hour”, a 60-minute hotel-wide lights-off campaign on March 27, 2010 from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.
“We have started this campaign on June 27, 2009 and we have never stopped since then. Almost a year has passed and we are truly overwhelmed with the continued response of our guests and patrons. We have also been getting positive feedback from our guests and noticed that our loyal patrons would repetitively come back particularly every last Saturday of each month just so they can participate in this worthwhile initiative.” shared Dusit Thani Manila general manager Prateek Kumar.
The monthly Dusit Green Hour is being conducted and participated by the entire Dusit Thani Manila consisting of the DFiT Fitness Center, Devarana Spa, main Hotel lobby and all its restaurants and bars. Hotel guests are also encouraged to switch off the lights in their rooms.
“Participating in this campaign by switching off the lights in their respective rooms is our guests’ prerogative. To address the need to reduce energy consumption without compromising our guests’ inconvenience, we replaced all incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent lamps and LED lamps in all the guest rooms. On the other hand, the Food and Beverage team has decided to fully commit on this initiative by faithfully dimming lights for an hour in all its restaurants and bars, leaving our guests no choice but to brace this call to save Mother Earth”, added Kumar.
As this campaign endeavors to save Mother Earth that eventually saves energy cost for the hotel, all its dining guests are also being shared the saving benefits of this thrust by entitling them 30% discount on any food and beverage orders for dinner every last Saturday of each month.
Each restaurant also showcases its respective contribution to make a greener and better world all year round. Basix, the all day dining restaurant suggests conservation of resources through its Surf and Turf Station where the grilling items are cooked on guest’s demand only and promotes no wastage of food.
Basix has also stopped patronizing endangered species such as blue fin tuna and sharks fin. Tosca, on the other hand makes use of unplugged entertainment to conserve energy.
Benjarong, the Royal Thai Restaurant, on the other hand, takes pride in its naturally brewed Thai Pandan and Lemongrass Juices, the use of unrefined herbs and spices and its use of banana leaves, squash, pomelo and melon skin as serving bowls to prevent wastage of water and chemicals of dishwashing soaps. The freshest ingredients take center stage at Umu with its sushi bar and robata counter offerings prepared ala minute to promote no food wastage. Lobby Lounge features locally produced Lambanog Cocktails using 100% natural sources that include sugar cane, coconut and rice, thus preventing the usage of imported ingredients that will help reduce carbon footprint.
