Workshop on Investment in Ecotourism for ASEAN and GCC Countries On 20-23 August 2013 at dusitD2 Chiang Mai, Thailand

Chiang Mai - Thailand, by the Department of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, will host the Workshop on Investment in Ecotourism for representatives from the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) during August 20-23, 2013 in Chiang Mai Province.
About 40 delegates from 10 ASEAN countries and Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar will gather in the 4-day workshop to be held at Chiang Mai D2 Hotel. Outstanding ecotourism lecturers, resource persons as well as high-profile media in ecotourism will also join in the first-ever ecotourism workshop for ASEAN and GCC.
The workshop is aimed to provide a chance for tourism officials in ASEAN and GCC to exchange their views, knowledge, experiences and challenges in the current ecotourism situation and development. Thailand, as a member country of ASEAN, has been assigned by the ASEAN National Tourism Organizations (ASEAN NTOs) to play a leading role in human resource development for personnel in ecotourism.
The opening ceremony for the Workshop on Investment in Ecotourism will be organized on August 20, 2013 at dusitD2 Chiang Mai and will be presided over by the Deputy Director-General of the Department of Tourism, Mr. Pasit Poomchusri, who will also give a keynote speech to the audience. Panel discussion will be among interesting activities of the workshop.
The Department of Tourism says this annual ecotourism event is very important tool to support ASEAN tourism potentials in preparation for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) scheduled for 2015.
