Dusit Thani Dubai joins Dubai Municipality’s Clean up the World Campaign
24 October, 2012
Dusit Thani Dubai has joined Dubai Municipality as they prepare for Clean up the World 2012. The global initiative, from United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), is expected to see thousands of volunteers take to Dubai’s streets and open spaces as part of the world’s largest community based environmental initiatives.
The iconic five star hotel has partnered with Dubai Municipality this year as a platinum sponsor, forming part of the hotel’s already strong CSR program. Dusit Thani Dubai’s General Manager, James Wilson, noted that their involvement was an important move to encourage other businesses and residents in Dubai to take the protection of their environment seriously.
“The protection of our surroundings is everyone’s responsibility; the planet doesn’t just belong to us. Dusit Thani Dubai regularly participates in emirate-wide campaigns and initiatives to ensure that as custodians we are making efforts to not only look after our surroundings but to protect them for generations to come,” Mr Wilson added.
Speaking at a special ceremony with sponsors of the campaign, Eng. Abdul Majeed Saifaie, Head of Clean up the World Team and the Director of Waste Management Department, Dubai Municipality, noted: “This time we see a good number of organizations willing to join us. The high spirits of private sector entities to support and join authorities for environmental and social causes deserve high applause.”
Explaining about the campaign Eng. Saifaie said: “It aims to make our creek, beaches, parks and streets healthy and clean by removing and recycling rubbish that spoil them.”
In keeping with the hotel’s commitment to the environment, Dusit Thani Dubai colleagues will be spending a morning late in November on Jumeirah Open Beach to carry out a litter sweep.
