90 Chinese Couples Tie the Knot at Dusit Thani Hua Hin
12 October, 2012
Hua Hin, Thailand, 90 blissful Chinese couples tied the knot in the forerunner to a series of mass wedding ceremonies to be held at the idyllic beach paradise of Dusit Thani Hua Hin, one of the kingdom’s leading properties, as part of the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s “2013 Romance in Thailand” push to promote the lesser-known, unspoilt resorts of Cha-am and Hua Hin as a viable romantic alternative to more touristy destinations like Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket. By the end of 2013, it is expected that 999 couples will have been bonded in Thai-style matrimony
The inaugural ceremony, conducted by and in the presence of senior provincial officials, featured all the hallmarks of a traditional Thai wedding, including the celebratory “Khan Mark” procession preceding the ceremonial offering of dowry to the bride’s parents; the sprinkling of lustral water from a conch shell over the hands of the newlyweds; and the anointing of the couple’s forehead followed by the eternal bonding by blessed thread placed around the head.
On a glorious sunny day, a collective photo was taken of all 90 couples in front of the hotel’s Royal Dusit Hall, which later hosted a grand reception for the newlyweds and their guests.
