Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket staff enters International Bangkok Triathlon
01 June, 2012
Phuket, Thailand – Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket’s Sports & Activities Attendant, Mr Piyawut Polpongsa, 35, will participate in the fourth International Bangkok Triathlon on Sunday 3 June in Thailand’s capital city.
The long course triathlon, known locally as “Khon Lhek (Iron Man)” consists of a 1.85km swim in the Chao Phaya River, a 55km cycle along an elevated expressway, and a 10km run on the magnificent Rama VIII Bridge.
“I am very excited to enter my first race off of Phuket island,” says Mr Polpongsa. “I’m always encouraging my family and friends to get into sports, as I believe that working out a few times a week helps keep the doctor away. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket management team and colleagues for their valued support. Wish me luck!” To find out more details, please log on to www.bangkoktriathlon.org
In 2011 Mr Polpongsa completed the gruelling Laguna Phuket International Triathlon course in 3:33:46 hours, coming seventh among the competing Thai athletes. The following week, he teamed up with colleagues for the 2011 Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship, swimming the 1.9km Andaman Sea relay race to help his team into third place.
In his spare time, Polpongsa volunteers for community projects such as the ‘Laguna Phuket Survival Swim Programme’, which teaches basic survival skills to more than 2,600 local schoolchildren aged 12-15 years.
