Dusit Thani Manila is Yao Ming’s Official Home in Manila

Makati, Philippines – Dusit Thani Manila is the official residence of the Philippines-China Friendship Games 2013 led by former NBA superstar and Shanghai Sharks owner and President, Yao Ming, who is slated to arrive in Manila on May 3, along with his team and some members of the Chinese press.

The Philippines-China Friendship Games shall have the Shanghai sharks in exhibition games against the Smart Gilas national team on May 6 at the MOA Arena and against the PBA All-Stars on May 7 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

This visit is in line with the Sports Cooperation Agreement forged in August 2011 between the Philippines and the People's Republic of China sports bodies.

Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Richie Garcia said that "the commission appreciates the warm response and help from the private sector" and that even the Filipino-Chinese community has promised their support for the event. Tickets are already out for the public at Ticketnet and SM Ticket Offices, but games shall also be shown by ABC TV 5.

The Samahang Basketbolista ng Pilipinas and the Philippine Basketball Association are throwing their all-out support for the event as well. The match between the PBA All-Stars and the Sharks shall serve as a tune-up game for their participation in the forthcoming FIBA Asia Championships, to be hosted by the Philippines this August.

Garcia adds that the PSC has been working closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs, citing that this event is a celebration of the "2011-2013: Years of Friendly Exchanges" agreement between the Philippines and China. Other partner government agencies of this event are the Games and Amusement Board, Department of Tourism, Bureau of Immigration, Manila International Airport Authority, MMDA, local governments of Pasay City and Quezon City and the PNP.

Part of this visit is a basketball clinic for the less-fortunate kids aged 14 and under, at the Philsports (formerly ULTRA) Multi-Purpose Arena on May 5, to be conducted by the Sharks and some collegiate players.

This event is organized by the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee.
