Cairo, Egypt, the Triumphant City, known officially as al-Qāhirah is one of the world's largest urban areas and offers many sites to see. It is the administrative capital of Egypt and, close by, is the Great Pyramids of Giza on the very edge of the city. There are also ancient temples, tombs, Christian churches, magnificent Muslim monuments, and of course, the Egyptian Antiquities Museum all either within or nearby the city.
Cairo provides great culture, including art galleries and music halls, such as the Cairo Opera House; as well it should, being one of the largest cities in the world. It offers an incredible selection of shopping, leisure and nightlife activities. Shopping ranges from the famous Khan el-Khalili souk, (or bazaar) largely unchanged since the 14th century, to modern air-conditioned centers displaying the latest fashions. Particularly good buys are spices, perfumes, gold, silver, carpets, brass and copperware, leatherwork, glass, ceramics and mashrabiya (wood carving).

National Museum of Cairo, Egypt
BNational Museum of Cairo uilt in Boulak. In 1891, the Egyptian Museum is situated at Tahrir square in Cairo. It was built during the reign of Khedive Abbass Helmi II in 1897, and opened on November 15, 1902. It has 107 halls. At the ground floor there are the huge statues. The upper floor houses small statues, jewels, Tutankhamon treasures and the royal mummies was opened at the museum, housing eleven kings and queens.
Citadel
One of Cairo's most popular tourist attractions is the Citadel which houses a number of museums, ancient mosques and other sites, located on a spur of limestone that had been detached from its parent Moqattam Hills by quarrying. The Citadel is one of the world's greatest monuments to medieval warfare, as well as a highly visible landmark on Cairo's eastern skyline. Particularly when viewed from the back side (from the north), the Citadel reveals a very medieval character.
Opera House
The 7 -story opera house at the Gezira Exhibition Grounds was inaugurated on October, 3, 1988. Designed by a team of Japanese and Egyptian architects, it is an architectural masterpiece of Islamic design. It is equipped with the most sophisticated audio-visual system and comprises 3 theatres. The splendid Opera House complex houses several galleries, restaurants and concert halls. It is a magical experience to be listening to Arabic music under the stars, in the open air theatre. In the heart of Islamic Cairo, you can watch folk musicians and whirling dervish dancers, overlooking the sound and light show at the Pyramids, a dramatic fusion of light and music recounting the story of antiquity.
Baron's Palace
Baron's Palace in Greater Cairo is a monument in Egypt. Built between 1907 and 1910 and overlooks the town, the architectural style has an infusion of the French, Cambodia, Belgium built into a Hindu palace. Builder Belgian-born industrialist, Baron-General Edouard Louis Joseph Empain (1852-1929), became one of Europe's greatest colonialist entrepreneurs of the 20th century and is the architect of the city of Heliopolis.
Cairo Tower
Cairo Tower offers a panoramic view of the great city, with its very modern and very ancient districts. Anyone who has stood atop the Citadel or from the upper floors of some of the taller hotels is aware of the grand views that Cairo offers. Located on Gezira Island (Zemalak). This 187 meter tall tower, in the form of a latticework tube that fans out slightly at the top, is said to imitate a lotus plant, and ranks only fourth among the worlds highest towers. It is made of granite; the same material often used by the ancient Egyptians, and is about 45 meters taller than the Great Pyramid at Giza.
Khan el-Khalili Old Cairo Market
Khan el-Khalili was built in 1382, in the heart of the Fatimid City. Together with the al-Muski market to the west, they comprise one of Cairo's most important shopping areas. They represent the market tradition which established Cairo as a major center of trade, and at the Khan, market filled with hundred of shops set in an array of narrow streets.

The Al-Azhar Park
