Corporate e-News April to May 2009

Sawasdee Pi Mai or Happy Thai New Year

April is the month of blessings, happiness and celebration in Thailand. It is the month of Songkran, a Thai traditional New Year which starts from 13 to 15 April every year. It is also known as the “Water Festival” as people believe that water will wash away bad luck.

The Songkran tradition is recognised as a valuable custom for the Thai people to reunite with family and friends. Thai family members will gather in order to express their respects to the elders by pouring scented water onto the hands of their parents and grandparents. The elders in return wish the youngsters good luck and prosperity. This has become one of the most unique representations of Thai culture with its expression of caring, respect and goodwill to family members and community.

The warmth of Thai culture is profoundly rooted in the essence of Dusit International. We were founded on a vision to create a unique experience for our guests, not only to uplift their expectations of hospitality but of Thailand. In all we do, we never forget that we are custodians of a unique heritage and representatives of the Kingdom of Thailand. Songkran, thus, represents a significant meaning to all of us, as the brand’s cultural value and as an opportunity to convey good wishes to each other, and to our guests, clients and partners from around the world.

May we wish you all a Happy Songkran!

Warmest regards,
Octavio Gamarra
