Dusit International advances its green initiatives by announcing to bring all of its properties across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, into the Green Globe programme by this year, marking a signification milestone for the company in environmental conservation, and become a ‘green leader’ in the ASEAN community. This has coincided with the recent ASEAN Tourism Forum in Brunei that aims to promote tourism in the region and advancing 2010’s green theme in committing to responsible environmental and social practices in tourism-related businesses.
“Eco-friendly initiatives are compelling to the hotel guests. Not only in ASEAN, but hotels around the world are making a significant effort to lower their energy and water usage, and reduce waste as well as contributing to the local communities as customers become more concerned about the environment, and they are willing to change their behaviour by choosing to stay or partner with hotels that share the same environmental values. A green-friendly hotel is becoming a preferred choice of the guests, and this is a significant step for our society,” said Mr. Octavio Gamarra, Senior Vice President, Dusit International.
“Eleven of our hotels and resorts have already entered the Green Global programme, and remaining hotels will join this year. We are proud to be an organisation that takes serious steps into enhancing the green initiatives. Not only do we realise that it’s our priority to contribute to the well-being of the communities within which we operate, our commitment to embracing the green policy will also help reduce the carbon footprint and ensure the sustainability of our global expansion in the future,”
Mr. Gamarra added that The ASEAN Tourism Forum 2010 in Brunei is a perfect stage for Dusit to promote its green initiative as the event this year will be highlighted under the theme “ASEAN - The Heart of Green”, Ten Destinations, One Conservation Vision. Aside from promoting its Green Globe initiative, the group also encourages the green tourism as many Dusit hotels and resorts are located in areas of unique natural landscapes, pristine environments, and cultural heritage.
