As part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility, Dusit Thani Guam Resort successfully raised over six thousand dollars for Dusit Smiles which provides surgery for children on Guam with cleft lip and cleft palate.
Hundreds of supporters attended the Dusit Smiles benefit concert held at Dusit Thani Guam Resort on November 7th featuring the award-winning urban reggae band Tribal Theory from San Diego, California.
“This particular charity is very close to our hearts. Dusit Smiles is unique because it is very tangible in the sense that this surgery that can sometimes take 40 to 45 minutes can completely change their lives,”
said Dean Huntsman, General Manager of Dusit Thani Guam Resort.
Guam physicians Dr. Darius Richardson, D.M.D., M.D. and Dr. John Fegurgur, M.D. who are both registered doctors with the global Operation Smile program have been performing cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries on Guam and as part of medical missions to neighboring countries for the past several years.
The support of these doctors has made it possible for Dusit Thani Guam Resort to work towards directing its fundraising monies towards cleft palate operations exclusively on Guam, which means all funds raised by DTGU for Dusit Smiles will stay on island.
Last year alone, the doctors performed over a dozen cleft lip and cleft palate procedures on Guam. According to Dr. Fegurgur costs inclusive of surgery, hospital related expenses and post-treatment therapy can range from $30,000.00 to $40,000.00 per patient.
Since 2010, Dusit International, one of Asia’s leading hotel groups, has donated over USD $200,000.00 to provide surgery for children with facial deformities under Dusit Smiles for Operation Smile Thailand.
The company’s first operation mission, which was held in Si Sa Ket, northeast of Thailand, was a successful event with the support from Dusit International’s hotels and resorts as well as its business units. Funds raised come from organizing many charity activities throughout the year, in-room Dusit Smiles donation envelopes, donation boxes placed in all Dusit hotels and restaurants, charity auctions, salary donations, sports events, and much more.
DTGU’s goal is to raise $20k this year; to date nearly $13,000 has been generated for Dusit Smiles.
