Phu Quoc is the largest island in an archipelago in the Gulf of Thailand, 45km from Ha Tien, the nearest Vietnamese city, and about 15km from the coast of Cambodia.
Phu Quoc means “abundant land” in Vietnamese, but the locals also call it Pearl Island because of the beautiful scenery and rich natural resources. Its 150km of coastline is home to about 20 unspoilt beaches and 70% of the land has been protected as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve National Park since 2001.
Phu Quoc’s climate is characterised by a distinct rainy season from June to September (sometimes with heavy rains and high humidity) and a dry season from October to May (with lots of sun and low humidity). The average temperature is around 28°C, while April and May are the hottest months, with temperatures reaching 35°C, and January being the coolest, with temperatures around 25°C.
